December Newsletter
Hi all! Here’s a little summary of the upcoming events and changes happening at the Kraken. But first and foremost, the most important news…Our coffee machine is back, alive and kicking!
Events
Please see our ‘Events’ page for all info.
Firstly, the last FightClub of the year will be on “Friday 13th” December! Usual thing: Free for all members and £5 for any non-members. Feel free to invite friends/family! Info is here.
We have our Christmas do on 27th December starting at 18:30. We have hired out the big function room at The Embankment for a big Christmas meal followed by some drinks in town for those that have any room left. We have booked as many places as possible but obviously there’s still limited spaces, so will be on a first come first serve basis. Please pay for your meal and tell us your course choices at reception ASAP! Unfortunately, once the places have gone there’s nothing we can do about it, so hurry! If it’s anything like last year then it will be an awesome night!
If you know of anyone wanting to start the new year in the best possible fashion or are struggling for Christmas present ideas, then fear not… Our new six week Beginners Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Course is starting on 8th January!
New Yoga Instructor
We’d like to welcome a new coach to our amazing team. Gabriela came to our attention after some glowing recommendations and one of Bedford’s most highly regarded yoga intructors. She will be taking Sunday yoga classes (inc. this Sunday 24th!) at 9:30. Please come along to give her a warm welcome. If you don’t already know of the many benefits of yoga then see below!
Christmas Holidays
For those that haven’t clocked on to all of the christmas lights and songs popping up everywhere, we are quickly approaching the Christmas Holidays. Please be aware that we will be closed from the 23rd December, reopening again the following week on the 2nd January. Obviously we are aware that the thought of not seeing our beautiful faces over the festive period is painful but fear not – we will all be at the Christmas do. Also, there’s no way that we’ll be able to stay off of the mats so there will be a few impromtu sessions where one of us will be opening up for a few hours. We’ll be sure to stick it on Telegram as soon as anything’s arranged so if you aren’t already then make sure that you’re following our channel!
Timetable Update
Our timetable’s just been updated once more. Unfortunately we’ve cut the Thursday wrestling class with immediate effect leaving a 1.5hr class on Tuesday & Sunday, with the latter being specific wrestling for MMA. This is due to a recent drop in attendance and the coaches believing that it will be better funneling people into two classes than spreading them thinner over the three. However, as we’ve always maintained, our timetable is forever evolving. If and when wrestling numbers pick up in the future then we can reinsert an additional class.
On the bright side, the Thursday’s slot, starting from 2nd January, has been replaced with a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (gi) class taken by Darren 😁
Another change due to attendance is Wednesday’s judo class. This has been swapped with the MMA (Beginners) class to offer a different time slot as opposed to offering them both at 16:30. In turn, the 16:30 slot on a Wednesday has been filled with an additional Fighting Fit class giving any parents of the MMA Fundamentals students a chance to train alongside their kids!
Membership Reminder
Just a little reminder about the changes to direct debits starting in the new year. These are detailed in October’s newsletter.
Right, I’m off to bed ready for an early morning (for me) weigh in with the guys at Edgbaston Stadium!
