Hi all,
After many discussions and enquiries we’re now in a position where we can give you guys an update on where we are with the current Covid-19 situation.
Our Situation:
I’m sure many of you have heard the Government plans to support small businesses. We’ve had it confirmed today that we are not eligible for any grants as we pay a contribution to our landlords rates and aren’t independently rated. As such we simply can’t get a penny.
In addition to this we’re also not entitled to business rate relief and as we’ve had to pay in advance we are unable to get our business rates refunded.
Next we contacted our insurance company who confirmed today that they won’t be paying out for any loss of earnings due to the pandemic, but we still need to keep up our payments to them.
As such rent, rates, internet/phone, utilities, payment systems, websites, insurance, subscriptions. Accountancy fees etc. all still need to be paid.
Still being a relatively new business, we are in a vulnerable place meaning that this epidemic couldn’t have come at a worse time. However, this is our everything and we have poured our life and souls into this gym. Therefore, although we’re in difficult times, we are determined to do everything we can to ensure that, with your help, we stay afloat and are still here for you all once the government allow it.
We are very humbled and grateful for all of the messages that we have had already from so many of you, declaring your support and loyalty.
Going forward:
We’d love to be in a position to simply blanket freeze all memberships like the large National gym chains are doing but with the info above its just not possible. What we ask from you all, if possible, is for your continued support through these difficult times by allowing your membership payments to continue this month to enable us the vital cash-flow needed to pay for all of the unavoidable overheads and to make sure we’re here when the crisis is over.
Obviously we don’t expect anything for nothing. As soon as we are back (hopefully not long!) you will have these membership payments in credit on your account. We can then either deduct this from your membership fees over the course of a few months or add free months onto the end of your 12 month contract (or from January next year if you’re on a rolling contract) or we can give you it back in a combination of private sessions and discounted merchandise!
Doing this will help us survive and ensure that Kraken lives on. We would be forever grateful. However, in the rare case where your support is not at all possible, please contact us on membership@kraken-mma.com to discuss other options. Please do not just cancel direct debits as we incur admin fees that will have to be passed on. Instead any agreed amendments should be made on our side.
Lastly, we will be keeping up to date with all government legislation and we will have a further update for you within a month or as soon as anything changes.
In the meantime, we will be recording some online content for use at home. This will include MMA & BJJ techniques for both adults and our junior students to help them practice towards stripe testing, flexibility instructionals, home strength & conditioning and various nutritional guidance. Although not ideal, there is still a lot of things that can be done from home to maintain your fitness, technique and overall health, enabling you to hit the ground running upon return and potentially in better daily routines!
